Best Hikes in the World

Best hikes in the world Introduction It's no secret that hiking is the best way to get out into nature and see its beauty. But, it can also be hard to find an amazing place to hike. That's why we decided to round up some of the best hikes in the world! Torres del Paine Circuit, Chile The Torres del Paine Circuit is a hike that will take you through Chile's Patagonia. It takes about five days to complete and begins at Puerto Natales, at the mouth of the Serrano River. In addition to hiking through pine forests and crossing rivers, you'll also get views of Torres del Paine (three granite towers), Lago Grey, and Lago Pehoé. The route goes counterclockwise around this area—starting in the east side—and passes through all three parts: Parque Nacional Torres del Paine; Parque Nacional Los Glaciares; and Parque Nacional Bernardo O'Higgins (which has its own separate entrance fee). The entire circuit is about 400 kilometers long—about 250 miles—and has an elevation change

Hunan 2020: Second Stop Zhangjiajie

Image
Zhangjiajie Zhangjiajie in Hunan is a famous spot for hiking and mountain climbing.   We got there by taking an intercity train from Changsha to a nearby town.   From there we took a bus to a bus that dropped us off on the side of the road to wait for someone from the hotel to come and pick us up.   The local culture is similar to my wife’s minority of Miao/Humo, one is the people the other is the language.   Which means that dinner was spicy food.   Now a quick note on the food.   I had done a winter camp based around STEM in a Zhongzhou which is near my wife's hometown of Huayuan. I found the food there delicious.   Spicy, salty, greasy, delicious, the other foreign teacher doing the camp was a woman from America and hated it, her loss.   That being said some of the food that I had on this trip in Changsha and Zhangjiajie was spicy just for the sake of being spicy and didn’t have any other flavor to it.   The food kind of reminded of the food in Korea in that way. Now Zha

Hunan 2020: Changsha

Image
Hunan 2020: First stop Changsha Why on God’s green earth did we go to this place?   Well, my wife is from Hunan and she got her two degrees in University from two colleges in Changsha.   Changsha is the capital of Hunan and is famous for Yueli mountain and Mao Zi Dong.   Mao went to the school in Changsha as well, though a different one from my wife.   The food in Changsha is generally spicy.   I like spicy food but I prefer it to be added with salty and savory as well.   Which food outside of Changsha normally is. This was actually my second time to Changsha as I had got before with my wife once before we got married.   The second time we went we just went straight to her hometown to get married.   This trip kicked off a two-week tour of Hunan that ultimately ended in my wife’s hometown.   My initial impression of Changsha is that it’s not that great.   That is probably not what most bloggers who talk about travel would want to hear.   Changsha is a smaller city than Guangzhou wh

5 Days in Beijing: Day 5

5 Days in Beijing: Day 5 All-day: the Great Wall of China The thing with the Great Wall is there are sections so you will not see all of it.    Here    I am recommending two different sections.    One is the most famous section, that being said it’s best to go when it is not the tourist season.    While the other is a great section as well but not as popular as the other.    Both sections are well preserved or restored and easy for tourists of all ages to explore due to restored steps, cable cars, and pullies. First Option: Badaling If you are coming during the spring or autumn and not on a national Chinese holiday then Badaling is probably the section you want to go to.    Other than those times it is far too crowded for an enjoyable experience.    I went during the Chinese national holiday and it was standing only on the train there and back while I was not able to get on to the wall it's self due to the number of people. Some points of interest for Badaling are North S

5 Days in Beijing: Day 4

Image
5 Days in Beijing: Day 4 The fourth day of your stay in Beijing is sort of the day of southern Beijing.    I sort of but for the most part, you will be sticking pretty close to line 1 on the subway.    If you are a shopper then today will be great for you, if you are not a shopper then you can at least walk around a looking at some cultural stuff. Breakfast: Asian dough stick and soy milk. This is basically how it is advertised at McDonald's and it’s what I am recommending.    I have seen this on the college campuses that I have worked at and around the cities, I have lived in while being China.    All together Seven years at this point, but I will talk about that more in another post. The dough stick is just deep-fried dough and kind of reminds me of elephant ears from carnivals but without the cinnamon and sugar.    And soy milk is milk made from soybeans.    Don’t worry one glass will not upset your estrogen levels.     You can get both together as a combo for around one dollar

5 Days in Beijing: Day 3

Image
Beijing Day 3 Today you will be heading to the western and eastern side of Beijing.    Covering a lot of ground but don’t worry the subway system will seeing you around easily. Breakfast: Dumplings We have all seen Chinese dumplings.    Little bags of dough with meat and veggies inside.    The Chinese steam them while the Japanese fry and the Koreans make them bigger but still fry them.    Either way, you’re in China so you get them steamed.    Finding dumplings is pretty easy, you just look for the counters that are serving breakfast food.    Normally they have dumplings, jiao zai, cake, bread, and other things that the Chinese choose to break their fast with.    The Chinese like to dip their dumplings into vinegar, it’s not great in my own humble opinion but they like it.    The most popular fillings are mixed vegetables, pork with carrot, and you might find a few others.    A great one that might only be found in Hunan, but if you can find it totally try it, is rice mixed with peppe

Beijing in 5 Days: Day 2

Beijing Day 2 Breakfast Another favorite breakfast means in China is called congee.    It’s just porridge but made from rice.    It comes with different ingredients the most commonly found are plain, as in no ingredients, with different vegetables, and salted pork with preserved egg.    I’ll let you make your own decision on the preserved egg.    I’ve had it but it was so long ago that I don’t remember what it tastes like.    You can find congee just about anywhere, including KFC, McDonald's, and 711.    It’s very popular.    It should only cost a 3-5 RMB for a bowl.    If you go to one of the fast-food restaurants it will cost you more but you will also get some soy milk and deep-fried bread as a combo. Morning In the early morning, I am recommending that you visit the Temple of Earth in northern Beijing.    You can find the temple located outside of Angdinmen station on the MTR.    The temple is located in Ditan Park which great for a stroll and you might see older Ch
